In this article
If you are wondering where to buy chairs in Cyprus, you can order them online from Argos The Classics and have them delivered across the Republic of Cyprus, from Nicosia and Limassol to Larnaca, Paphos and the Famagusta area. We have been selling furniture, lighting and home décor in Cyprus since 1995, and our range covers dining chairs, bar stools, office chairs, armchairs and children’s chairs. This guide explains how to choose the right chair for each room, with the measurements that matter.
Where can you buy chairs in Cyprus?
You can buy chairs in Cyprus from furniture shops, specialist office suppliers and online stores. Rather than looking for one “best” place, it helps to judge any shop by a few practical points:
- Clear dimensions and materials on every product page, so you can check seat height and width before you order.
- A wide choice across rooms, so dining, office and bar seating can go in one order.
- Transparent delivery: which areas are covered, how long it takes and how the cost is worked out.
- A returns policy you can read before you pay.
- A real person who answers questions quickly.
Argos The Classics is an online store with no showroom. Every product page lists dimensions and materials, and you can browse thousands of products in our online furniture shop. Delivery typically takes 15–20 days after purchase, and some made-to-order items take longer, which is shown on the product page. The delivery cost is calculated at checkout from your address and the size of your order. You can also collect your order free of charge from our collection point in Larnaca, Stadiou 84, Office 202, after arranging a time with us on WhatsApp. Full details are on our delivery and collection page.
Dining chairs: height, width and materials
Dining chairs are the chairs most people search for, and getting the size right matters more than the style. Most dining tables are about 75 cm high, and a comfortable dining chair typically has a seat height of about 45–47 cm. That leaves a gap of roughly 25–30 cm between the seat and the tabletop, which gives room for your legs.
For width, allow about 55–60 cm per chair along the table. A table about 180 cm long therefore seats three people comfortably on each long side. If you prefer dining armchairs, check that the arms slide under the tabletop, or allow a little extra space for each seat.
Materials make a big difference in Cyprus, where summers are hot and the dining table is often the busiest spot in the house:
- Fabric: soft and breathable in the heat. Choose darker colours or easy-clean fabrics if you have young children.
- PU or faux leather: wipes clean easily, which suits family meals, though it can feel warm on bare skin in August.
- Wood: sturdy and timeless. Add seat pads if you tend to sit at the table for long meals.
- Plastic or polypropylene (PP): light, easy to clean and practical for kitchens, rentals and busy homes.
You can compare styles in our full range of dining chairs and armchairs, or go straight to dining chairs. Each product page shows the seat height, so you can check it against your table before you order.
Bar stools: counter height or bar height?
Bar stools are sized to the surface they sit at, so measure your kitchen counter or island first. As a rule of thumb, aim for a gap of about 25–30 cm between the seat and the surface:
- Kitchen counters of about 90 cm: a seat height of about 65 cm, often called counter height.
- Bars of about 105 cm: a seat height of about 75 cm, often called bar height.
- Different surfaces at home, or not sure: an adjustable gas-lift stool lets you raise or lower the seat.
A footrest makes a real difference to comfort on taller stools, and a backrest helps if people will sit through a full meal. Allow roughly the same 55–60 cm per stool as you would for dining chairs, so nobody is elbow to elbow. You can compare seat heights in our bar stools range.
Office chairs for home and work
If you work from home or are furnishing an office, choose your office chair carefully, because you may sit in it for many hours a day. Look for:
- Adjustable seat height, so your feet rest flat on the floor and your forearms are level with the desk.
- Lumbar support that follows the curve of your lower back.
- Armrests that support your arms without pushing your shoulders up.
- A breathable back if your room gets warm in summer.
For long working days, executive office chairs typically offer a higher back and more generous padding. For shorter tasks or a spare room, a simpler model is usually enough. Browse all our office chairs and check the adjustment range listed on each product page.
Armchairs and children’s chairs
Armchairs for the living room are about comfort rather than posture. Check the seat depth and height on the product page: a deeper seat suits curling up with a book, while a slightly higher, firmer seat is easier to get in and out of for older family members. Measure the space, including room to walk around, before you order. Our guide on how to measure before ordering furniture takes you through it step by step, and you can see the range in living room armchairs.
For children, a chair sized for them is more comfortable and easier to use than an adult chair. Look for stable legs, rounded edges and surfaces that wipe clean after crafts and snacks. Have a look at our children’s chairs.
What about outdoor chairs?
We also sell chairs for gardens, balconies and verandas. With winter on the way, outdoor seating may not be top of your list, but if you are planning ahead for spring you can browse our outdoor furniture at any time.
