Christmas decorations in Cyprus look best when you plan the whole home in one go: the front door, the living room, a light touch on the table and the balcony, all in one colour story. Choose the palette, measure the spaces, then buy from one Christmas shop in measured quantities so everything belongs together. And order by the end of November, because delivery takes 15 to 20 days.
Short answer: one colour story, four zones (entrance, living room, table, balcony), quantities worked out from your measurements, and an order placed by the end of November.
The most common problem I see at Christmas is not a lack of decorations. It is too many decorations that do not talk to each other.
Why plan Christmas decorations for the whole home?
Because a home decorated one room at a time ends up looking like four different shops. The usual pattern: the tree goes up in red and gold, a silver wreath arrives for the door, the balcony gets blue lights because they were there, and the hallway gets whatever is left in the box. Each piece is fine on its own. Together they argue.
A plan fixes this in half an hour. Walk through your home with a tape measure and your phone, and note four zones: entrance, living room, table and balcony. Write down the measurements and the nearest socket for each. Then decide what each zone gets and, just as important, what it does not get. You will buy less, and it will look more considered.
How do I choose a Christmas colour story?
Pick one main colour, one metal and one natural texture, then repeat them in every zone. That is the whole rule. Our light stays bright even in December, and most Cyprus homes have white walls and pale tiles, so colour carries further than you think.
| Colour story | Feels | Works best with | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red, gold and pine green | Classic, warm | Wood furniture, warm white lights | Too many shades of red |
| Silver, white and grey-green | Crisp, wintry | Modern white interiors, flocked trees | Can feel cold at night without warm lights |
| Natural green, wood and cream | Calm, Scandinavian | Light oak, linen, rattan | Looks unfinished if you skip the lights |
| Black, gold and white | Modern, dramatic | Black metal, marble | Too much black on a small tree |
If you cannot decide, go warm. Gold and natural green forgive a lot, and they sit happily next to almost any sofa.
What should go at the entrance?
One strong signal and nothing that gets in the way. A wreath on the door, or a garland along a console, is enough. If you have a hallway console, run a pine garland along the top, tuck in a few berry branches and add one or two LED candles. Keep the floor clear. Shoes, bags and shopping need that space more than a reindeer does.
For an apartment door on a shared corridor, a wreath on an over-door hook is the tidy option. If your front door faces the street and catches direct sun, hang the wreath on the inside of the glass or choose one marked for outdoor use. Strong sun fades red ribbon faster than people expect. Our wreaths and garlands include tinsel and pine garlands, berry branches and velvet poinsettias, the easy way to carry your colour story indoors.
How do I decorate the living room without clutter?
Let the tree be the star and give it one supporting act. Choose the corner first: near a socket, away from the TV, and not directly under the air conditioning, which dries and shakes everything near it. Then add one more moment, either a garland on a shelf or a group of candles on the coffee table. Not both.
No space for a full tree? A tabletop tree on a sideboard, or a light-up village on a shelf, does the same job in a smaller footprint. Look at the Christmas trees by height and check the dimensions on each product page before you decide. For the cosy layer, metal candle holders in gold or black suit most palettes, and the tabletop décor you already own can stay out if it matches. Never leave real candles unattended. With small children or pets, use LED candles and relax.
How many decorations do I actually need?
Work from your measurements, not from the shelf in front of you. These are the rules of thumb I use:
- Baubles: about 10 to 12 per 30 cm of tree height, so roughly 60 to 70 for a 180 cm tree. Split them into a third large, a third medium and a third small.
- Tree lights: around 100 bulbs per 30 cm of tree height for a bright tree, half that for a soft glow. A pre-lit tree skips this step.
- Garlands: measure the shelf, console or railing and add 10 to 20 percent for drape and corners.
- Tree topper: one, in proportion. A large star on a slim tree looks top-heavy.
- Figurines and hanging ornaments: fewer than you think. Five good figurines grouped together beat fifteen scattered around the room.
- Ribbons and bows: decide where they go before you buy. Bows at the branch tips read better than ribbon wound around the tree.
Buy baubles in sets, in your chosen colours, from the ornaments and decorations range: glass if the tree is out of reach of small hands, plastic if it is not. For the tree lights, the Christmas lights pages list length and programmes, which makes the maths easy.
What about the Christmas table?
Keep it low, short and easy to move. A garland down the middle as a runner, a few baubles from the tree set and two or three LED candles are enough. Everything should sit below eye level when people are seated, so nobody has to talk to a pine branch. If the table is small, lift the centrepiece off when the food arrives.
How do I decorate a balcony in Cyprus?
Anything on a balcony must be marked for outdoor use, because it will meet wind, sun, rain and, near the coast, salt air. Look for lights rated IP44 or higher, keep plugs and transformers sheltered, and fix everything with cable ties or clips rather than tape. Cyprus sockets are the three-pin UK type, so check the plug type on the product page; a European two-pin plug needs a suitable adapter, kept dry.
For a balcony that reads from the street, one light-up motif and a run of lights along the railing are plenty. The LED Christmas decorations range has figures and motifs that do the work without much effort.
Mistakes I see all the time
- Buying the tree last. The tree sets the scale and the colours for everything else.
- Mixing warm white and cool white in the same room. One looks like candlelight, the other like a petrol station.
- Three different reds. Cherry, burgundy and orange-red in one room look accidental.
- Decorating every surface. When everything is festive, nothing stands out. Leave the eye somewhere to rest.
- Indoor lights outside. If it does not say outdoor use, it stays indoors.
- Ordering in mid-December. Delivery takes 15 to 20 days. The calendar does not negotiate.

Frequently asked questions
When should I order Christmas decorations in Cyprus?
Order by the end of November. Argos The Classics delivers across the Republic of Cyprus in 15 to 20 days after purchase, so an order placed by then arrives in good time for Christmas.
How many baubles do I need for a 180 cm Christmas tree?
About 60 to 70 baubles in mixed sizes is a good starting point for a 180 cm tree. Split them roughly into a third large, a third medium and a third small for depth.
What Christmas colours work best in a Cyprus home?
Warm palettes such as red, gold and pine green, or natural green with wood and cream, suit the white walls and pale tiles common in Cyprus homes. Pick one main colour, one metal and one natural texture and repeat them in every room.
Can I use indoor Christmas lights on my balcony?
No. Balcony lights must be marked for outdoor use, ideally IP44 or higher, and plugs and transformers should be kept sheltered from rain.
What plug do Christmas lights need in Cyprus?
Cyprus uses three-pin UK type sockets. Check the plug type on the product page, because a European two-pin plug needs a suitable adapter.
How much does delivery of Christmas decorations cost in Cyprus?
At Argos The Classics the delivery cost is calculated at checkout from the weight of the order and the delivery address. You can also choose free collection from our warehouse in Larnaca.
