The best sofas in Cyprus are the ones built for how we actually live here: long hot summers, air-conditioning, open-plan flats, often a dog or a cat, and dinners that finish late. Choosing well comes down to five things: the right type and size for the room, a fabric that copes with heat and pets, a seat depth that fits your body, a solid frame and cushions that keep their shape. This is how I would choose as an interior designer, and you can browse all our sofas while you read.
Short answer: For most Cypriot homes I would choose a 3-seater or a corner sofa in a tightly woven, washable fabric, with a seat depth of about 55–60 cm and a solid wood or metal frame. Measure the room and the doorway before you fall in love with anything.
Which type of sofa is right for your home?
The right type is the one that matches how many people sit on it every day, not how many turn up at Easter.
| Type | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| 2-seater | Small flats, studies, a second sofa | Two adults cannot really lie down |
| 3-seater | Most living rooms, couples, small families | Needs roughly 2 metres of wall |
| Corner sofa | Open-plan rooms, families, lounging | Fixed left or right corner; size must be exact |
| Sofa bed | Guest rooms, studios, holiday homes | Comfort depends heavily on the mechanism |
| Sofa set (3+2 or 3+1) | Formal living rooms, hosting | Takes more floor space than you think |
If you have a long wall and a family that likes to stretch out, look at corner sofas. If the room also has to work as a guest room, a sofa bed is the sensible choice. For a formal living room where people sit and talk, a set of sofas, or one sofa with a pair of armchairs, gives you more seats without one giant block of upholstery.
Fabric, leather or leatherette: what works best in the Cyprus heat?
Fabric is the most comfortable choice for a Cyprus summer, leather works if you live with the air-conditioning on and want something that wipes clean, and leatherette is the one I would think twice about.
Real leather looks handsome and is easy to wipe, but in July, in shorts, it can feel warm and sticky, and in January it is cold until it warms up. Keep it out of direct sun or it will fade and dry out. Leatherette, also sold as faux leather or PU, wipes clean and costs less, but lower grades can crack or peel over time, especially next to a sunny window or a balcony door. Fabric breathes and comes in every colour you can think of. The catch is that it shows stains, so choose a tight weave and, ideally, removable covers.
I have written a separate guide to the best sofa fabrics for Cyprus if you want the detail on linen, velvet, chenille and easy-clean fabrics.
Which sofa is best if you have pets or children?
A tightly woven fabric in a mid-tone colour, with removable covers, is the most forgiving choice with cats, dogs and children.
- Avoid loops if you have cats. Bouclé and loose, loopy weaves look wonderful until the first claw catches a thread.
- Leather scratches. Some people call it patina. Most people call it scratches.
- Mid tones hide more. Pure white shows everything, and so does black, especially pet hair. Greige, taupe, olive and warm grey are your friends.
- Washable beats any label. A cover you can take off and wash is worth more than a “pet-friendly” promise.
- Use a throw. Put it on the dog’s favourite end. Nobody is fooled, but it works.
How deep and how high should a sofa seat be?
For most adults, a seat depth of about 55–60 cm and a seat height of about 42–46 cm feels right for sitting upright; go deeper only if you like to curl up with your feet on the seat.
Seat depth is where most people get it wrong. Very deep sofas look relaxed in photos, but if you are not tall your feet will dangle and you will end up propped up on cushions. Taller people have the opposite problem: a shallow seat leaves the backs of the knees unsupported. If older parents visit often, a firmer, slightly higher seat with solid arms makes getting up much easier. Check the arms too. Wide, chunky arms eat into the usable seat, which matters a lot on a 2-seater.
Every product page lists the dimensions and materials, so compare the seat depth and height with a sofa or chair you already find comfortable.
What makes a sofa frame and cushions last?
A solid timber or metal frame, a proper suspension base and high-density foam cushions are what separate a sofa that lasts from one that sags by next summer.
- Frame: solid wood, good plywood or metal. If the frame is described only as chipboard or particleboard, I would skip it for a sofa you use every day.
- Base: springs or strong elastic webbing. This is what stops you sinking through to the frame.
- Seat cushions: high-density foam keeps its shape; a fibre wrap on top adds softness. Pure fibre or feather fillings look relaxed but need plumping every day.
- Back cushions: loose back cushions are easier to clean and turn; fixed backs look tidier and need less fussing.

How do you measure for a new sofa?
Measure the room first, then measure the way in: the front door, the hallway, any tight turns, the stairs and the lift.
- Mark the sofa’s width and depth on the floor with masking tape and live with it for a day.
- Leave about 80 cm to walk past, plus room to open doors, balcony doors and cupboards.
- Measure the narrowest door the sofa must pass through and compare it with the sofa’s depth and height, not just its width.
- If you live in an apartment, check the inside of the lift and the turns in the stairwell.
My guide on how to measure before ordering furniture goes through this step by step, and our size guide shows standard sizes. For corner sofas, use the corner sofa size guide, because one wrong measurement there costs you the whole corner.
Mistakes I see all the time
- Buying for the photo, not the room. A sofa that looks perfect in a large, empty studio shot can swallow a normal living room.
- Forgetting the lift. Lifts in Cypriot apartment blocks are rarely generous. Measure it.
- White linen with a toddler and a dog. Brave. Not recommended.
- Too much matching. A 3+2+1 in one fabric with matching cushions and curtains looks like a hotel lobby. Mix in one armchair in a different texture.
- Ordering the wrong corner. Left-hand and right-hand corner sofas are not interchangeable. Check the drawing on the product page.
How does sofa delivery work in Cyprus?
We deliver across the Republic of Cyprus, including Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and the Famagusta area, usually 15–20 days after purchase. Some made-to-order sofas take longer, and the product page will say so.
The delivery cost is calculated at checkout from your address and the size of your order, so you see it before you pay. Assembly is available on eligible items and can be added at checkout, again with the cost shown first. You can also collect your order free from our collection point at Stadiou 84, Office 202, Larnaca 6020, arranged on WhatsApp first. We are an online store with no showroom, which is exactly why I am so strict about dimensions. The full details are on our delivery and collection page.
If it is not right, you have 14 days from receiving your order to withdraw, then up to 14 more days to send it back in its original condition and packaging. Return shipping is normally paid by you, which is one more reason to measure twice. Here is our full returns policy.
Still not sure which one fits? Send me the room size and a photo on WhatsApp at +357 96 592277 and we will tell you what fits, Monday to Friday, 10:00–14:00. Or start with our living room collection and narrow it down from there.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best type of sofa for a small living room in Cyprus?
A 2-seater or a compact 3-seater with slim arms and raised legs usually works best in a small living room, because it keeps the floor visible and the walkways clear. Measure the room and the doorway before choosing.
Is leather or fabric better for a sofa in a hot climate?
Fabric is usually more comfortable in the Cyprus heat because it breathes and does not stick to bare skin. Leather works well in air-conditioned rooms and wipes clean, but keep it out of direct sun.
What seat depth is most comfortable on a sofa?
For most adults, a seat depth of about 55–60 cm is comfortable for sitting upright. Taller people, or anyone who likes to curl up, may prefer a deeper seat.
Which sofa fabric is best with cats and dogs?
A tightly woven fabric in a mid-tone colour, ideally with removable washable covers, is the most forgiving with pets. Avoid loopy weaves such as bouclé if you have cats, because claws catch easily.
How long does sofa delivery take in Cyprus?
Argos The Classics typically delivers 15–20 days after purchase across the Republic of Cyprus. Some made-to-order sofas take longer, and this is shown on the product page.
Can I return a sofa if it does not fit?
Yes. At Argos The Classics you have 14 days from receiving the order to withdraw, then up to 14 more days to return it in its original condition and packaging. Return shipping is normally paid by the customer.
